The house was empty this afternoon when I woke up (the second time), so after practicing being a lazy bastard for a while, I decided to celebrate Pi Day by going for a drive and seeing a movie.
A quick consultation of the movie listings resulted in a shock: Spartan, a new film by David Mamet that I hadn’t even known was being made, went into wide release this weekend. There’s a very short list of directors whose films I always love and David Mamet is on that list, so I was excited.
Needless to say, I loved the movie. I even loved Val Kilmer, about whom I’m usually ambivalent. If you haven’t seen it already, go see it.
In other news, Slashdot linked to a New York Times article today about Kerry Conran, the writer and director behind the upcoming Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (if you haven’t seen the trailer yet, watch it now). I’ve been following the news of this movie eagerly for a while now, but I didn’t know what an interesting guy Conran was. Something tells me this is going to be really, really good.
