Audioblogging, podcasting, whatever

I first toyed with the idea of audioblogging three or four years ago. I even went so far as to write the beginnings of an audioblog CMS, but I abandoned it when I couldn't figure out a cheap way to host the audio files. Of course, now that everyone and their dog, cat, and lawn gnome has a podcast, multimedia hosting is essentially free. So I've decided to test the waters.

You won't be hearing a podcast anytime soon, because I really don't have anything more to say than what I already write here, but I've always wanted to provide audio versions of my blog posts. Nothing could better convey just how bitter and crotchety I really am than my very own voice.

Not every post will be available in audio form. It would be silly for me to read source code aloud, for example. Generally, audio will be available for anything that I think would benefit from being heard in my own voice. If audio is available for a particular post, you'll see a lovely little icon in the top right corner. Click on it to play the MP3 (or download it, depending on how your browser is configured). Eventually, if people want them, I'll think about implementing RSS and Atom feeds of the audio posts so you can download them podcast-style.

Over the next few days, I'll be going through the archives and creating audio versions of selected posts. Enjoy responsibly.
