Yahoo! News predicts the future. Great Scott! Someone at Yahoo! News must have gotten their hands on a flux capacitor. They've called the election for Bush already, and it's not even November yet!

At around 2pm Pacific time, this page contained a color-coded election map, a state-by-state breakdown of popular and electoral vote counts, and a table summing up the results, showing that Bush had won both the popular and the electoral vote.

The URL now leads to a blank page, but I managed to nab a screenshot before it disappeared. Note the date in the page header. Also note that the totals indicate Bush won 30 states while Kerry won 22. That's a total of 52 states. What gives?

Also, note that Kerry is listed as having 22 states while the map only shows 20. This would indicate that it very well could be that DC's 3 votes were each being counted seperately, which would explain both of those discrepancies.

It could also be that votes were split in two Bush states (I'm not sure which states use a method that splits their electors, but I believe at least a couple do), and if they did that by having each set be a different state ("bush-oregon" and "kerry-oregon"), then that could also explain the numbers. This makes slightly more sense than having three entries for DC, but..

Only Colorado has on potentially on the books, a system to split the electoral votes.

I say potentially, because the law in question is being voted on this November 2nd.

That is just one big fuck up oh Yahoo's part.

Anyone like conspiracy theories?
some wisconsin tv site (WBAY TV, i think), had something like this on october 2nd. what they say is that they are testing it, and accidentally published a test AP feed.

i'm sure that's entirely true...

Not quite accurate. The Colorado measure would make it (to my knowledge) the only state to break their block of electors apart proportionately, but that isn't the only way to split the vote. Maine, for example, all but two of the electors are appointed to the winner of each congressional district instead of to the state-wide winner. (Reference), which presents at least the opportunity for splitting their electors.

I'm praying that its a sign of things to come. (Bush winning)

I don't pray, but I sure hope Bush is going to lose - and reason win.

Maine's electorates are going to vote for the candidate that wins the popular election.

you mean Bush win - and reason win

...holding US citizens indefinitely without access to attorneys or anything resembling due process is reasonable?
