Why is it that I always forget to drink my coffee once it's down to about an inch or two left in the cup? It's like there's a bit in my brain that gets flipped when the coffee is getting low and it makes me stop realizing it's there even when there are a few good sips left. Then, thirty minutes later, I look at my cup, realize there's coffee left, take a sip, and it's cold and shitty.

Have you tried...
Taking an inch less coffee? It might be your natural capacity for coffee, not something about the last inch.
Re: Have you tried...
The total amount of coffee doesn't seem to matter. For example, I usually drink coffee from an approximately 12oz paper cup, but the break room recently ran out of the paper cups so I've been using the approx. 18oz plastic ones, and I'm still unconsciously leaving an inch or so of coffee in the bottom, despite the additional volume.
Must be genetic.
I do it too -- also with milk. My solution was just to learn to like cold coffee. (If it sits there so long it gets gelatinous, though, you should probably just throw it away!)
Maybe this is a common thing
I do the same thing most of the time with coffee, but very rarely with tea. Huh, I always thought it was just me.
AGAIN
Dammit! I just did it AGAIN!
hmmmmm...
I got into the habit of doing that once I started drinking Turkish coffee (the last inch is mostly coffee silt anyhow)and I hadn't noticed it, but thinking about it, I've started doing it with normal coffee now too.
angle
I do it too, I think it has something to do with the angle at which you see the coffee cup... with the inch left in the cup when you glance or see the cup out of the corner of your eye can you "see" the coffee left in the bottom - my solution was to place my cup closer to me.. (Now I keep spilling the damn thing)
Me too!
Maybe it IS genetic, Bro, 'cause I do the same thing. As with you, it doesn't matter how big or small the cup is, I stop about an inch from the bottom every time. Weirdness...
I got the 'problem' too, but...
the distance that my cup is away from me when resting on my desk, have significant influence on the amount of coffe i forget to drink.
The farther away from me i place the cup, the more coffe will be forgotten... If for example i just fetched the coffe and place it 'far away' i will remember to drink for some time, but when the level of coffe get so low that it cant be observed in my field of view, without i raise my head, chances are higher that it will be cold when i sip it again... that is as a general rule though, because several other factors influence the equasion. And my observations have taught me that trying to awoid this by placing the cup in near vicinity will just result in liquid disasters on the desktop / keyboard / mouse...
No Problem..
Not just you who get that problem, many people get it too.
