Thanks to my recent misfortunes, I've had to call the Oregon DMV's Salem office several times to make various requests, like asking them to mail me a temporary non-photo driver license to replace the one I lost and having them send me proof of my license status so I could get a California license.
Every time I've called, they've picked up the phone on the first ring, answered with a friendly greeting, and listened carefully as I explained my problem. And each time they've gone out of their way to either fax or mail me the documents I needed as soon as humanly possible, without me even having to ask them to.
Rock on, Oregon DMV. It's not often that I experience such great customer service that I wish I had more excuses to call.

Reeeeeally?
Salem must be a completely different dimension then the Beaverton offices, then. Everytime I've had to call DMV here I get a surly, angry little bitch on the other line who acts as if I'm wasting their time.
Re: Reeeeeally?
That's why you should call the Salem office instead.

Lucky you! The Vancouver branch of the Washington DMV has a constant busy signal. I honestly think it's an extra service that they requested from the phone company.
There is a reason
All Oregon front line DMV calls are answered by women inmates at the Coffee Creek facility in Willsonville. They also answer for Sec of State and Oregon Health Plan calls.

I just called the Salem office and the person who answered that phone was a real snot and should be sent to customer service training. She was curt, rude and hung up on me before I could finish asking questions.
