Serenity Trailer

Tuesday April 26, 2005 @ 01:25 PM (PDT)

Please excuse me while I run around and flail my arms and jump up and down like a little kid. Also, do not be alarmed if I pee my pants.

Serenity is going to make a bajillion dollars. And a lot of them are going to be mine.

Trailer contents:

  • Badassery.
  • More badassery.
  • River being a fucking NINJA.
  • Some more badassery.
  • Massive space battles (with badassery).
  • Kasabian.
  • Mal being a badass.
  • Jayne being a badass.
  • Serenity being a badass.
  • Wash saying funny things.

And then, just for good measure:

  • SOME MORE BADASSERY.

Joss Whedon, I want to bear your children.

Comments

I offered to bear Joss Whedon's children LONG AGO. Because goddammit, the world needs more superpopcultureinterpersonaldramagenii, no matter the cost to me personally. Get in line!

And somehow, I think, of the two of us, one is more biologically fit to spit out Josslings. I have precedence AND possibility on MY side. So NEENER!

*runs off flailing her arms and jumping up and down like a little kid*

P.S. Hey wait, there was no Zoe being a badass? What gives?

'cause that trailer f-ing rules. Definitely looking forward to September even more than I already had been. Stupid Episode 3... screwing up the release schedule for this amazing-looking movie... grrrr...

So I was somewhat concerned when I saw the trailer that there would be sound in space to appease the masses. This is not the case. That is all.

The soundtrack/cinematography is also something of a departure from the series. My suspicion is that the trailer may be different from the actual movie in order to draw interest.

I found the effects shots too short for me to be sure whether the docu-shake effect was in evidence....but I'm with you on the music. I may enjoy Kasabian, but it's not the strange Western-World fusion with which I associate Firefly. I hope that, as you suggest, they jettisoned that music for the trailer but retained it for the movie.

Trailers almost never use the actual music from the movie, because the musical score is usually the last piece of the movie to be finished. This is why many trailers actually use recognizable music from other movies.

David Newman (brother of Thomas Newman, who scored American Beauty and Finding Nemo, and son of Alfred Newman, whose 20th Century Fox fanfare you might recognize) is doing the score for Serenity according to the credit flash at the end of the trailer.

I would not be entirely surprised if the cinematography between the series and the movie are indeed quite different. The intentional old-school motion shots that are a beautiful piece of the series, could be a bit nauseating on a large screen. Though the difference in the mes en scene I noted in the trailer do make me a bit nervous. However, this nervousness is drowned out by all the excitement!

I have been looking all over the internet for an idea as to who the band who was playing on the Serendipty trailer. You were the only one who knew. You're on the Christmas List!!!
