Serenity

Let me tell you about a little movie called Serenity.

I haven’t been more excited about seeing a movie in years. For godssake, I saw the movie two hours ago and I’m even more excited about seeing it again than I was about seeing it in the first place.

It was a work print; although the special effects seemed to be in place, the image quality was bad, the sound mix was crude, and the music was all temporary. But I couldn’t have loved it more. The thought of seeing what I saw tonight in real THX digital surround with a color-matched print and a David Newman score gives me the shivers.

I can’t think of another movie I’ve seen that has as satisfying a blend of adventure, humor and heart. Suck it, Star Wars.

Movie contents:

  • Badassery.
  • More badassery.
  • River being a fucking NINJA.
  • Some more badassery.
  • Massive space battles (with badassery).
  • No Kasabian.
  • Mal being a badass.
  • Jayne being a badass.
  • Serenity being a badass.
  • Pretty much everyone saying funny things.

And then, just for good measure:

  • SOME MORE BADASSERY.

And so, for the first time since 1997, a studio has allowed a perfect trailer to escape into the world at large. However, shockingly, they have allowed an equally gorgeous movie to follow suit...

I've named my business after it. ;)

I imagine this movie will have about the same effect in theatres as the first Star Wars. I'm hoping for a trilogy.
