Qubit's a wee bit chubby, but I wouldn't call her fat. She's definitely not as fat as she looks in that picture. The lighting and the long fur under her belly make her look chunkier than she is.
She's still capable of the wild airborne acrobatics she displayed in her more kittenish times, although she has learned to derive great joy from long, lazy naps, as all cats should.

I used a Canon PowerShot S110. Only 2.1 megapixels actually, and there wasn't enough light so I had to hold perfectly still to avoid getting motion blur. I got lucky and caught Qubit just as she paused to investigate the lamp, so the photo came out relatively sharp.
The color effects are actually due to the camera overcompensating for the blue light. The lamp was casting very bright blue light along with standard yellow incandescent light on a white wall. Qubit's fur is a very slight blue-grey, and the couch is, of course, blue. The camera tried to adjust for all this blue, and the result was the weird coloring you see on the wall. I also tweaked the contrast just slightly in Photoshop to give the colors (mostly the black of the lamp shade) a tiny bit more saturation.
I think the lighting on Qubit's fur is probably what gives the impression of a high quality image, but if you look at the texture on the wall or the label on the lamp, you'll realize that it's actually not a very sharp image at all. Which isn't to say that the camera is bad. In good light, it takes beautiful pictures. But these days, 2.1 megapixels ain't much.
