FIOS denied

Monday April 24, 2006 @ 04:42 PM (PDT)

Verizon called today and canceled my FIOS install. Their reason? They can't locate the water and sewer pipes between the street and my house (or apparently any of the other houses on the street). This is the sort of thing you would think they'd check on before spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to lay the fiber down the street and install splitters everywhere. What's the point if they can't actually get from the street to the houses?

I guess all that lovely new fiber will just stay dark and I'll keep giving my money to Comcast. Thanks, Verizon.

They didn't give you any estimated dates???

Wow, it sounds like they have committed an amazing act of stupidity! Hopefully, mostly for you, Verizon will figure out where the lines are sooner or later.

The woman I spoke to made it clear that this wasn't a situation that was likely to be resolved anytime soon. It sounds like Verizon isn't going to take any action, and if I want FIOS, it's my responsibility to figure out where these pipes are and inform them. It definitely didn't sound like they had any plans to do anything themselves.

You should ask to speak to their supervisor. Speaking with first level techs won't get you anywhere. And if you really want it, you could contact their contractors yourself and ask them if they are willing to work with your local gas and sewage companies. Check out http://digsafelyoregon.com/

agian... for trolling video games.

dig safe is responsible for water/gas location after being informed by verizon to do work at the site
