Digital audio bliss (complete with blue LED)

Wednesday August 25, 2004 @ 11:02 PM (PDT)

I stumbled across the Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Micro a few days ago and ordered it on a whim. It’s a USB device that provides, among other features, passthru optical S/PDIF suitable for sending a raw Dolby Digital 5.1 signal to my receiver. I bought it figuring there was a slim chance it’d be as good as the website claimed, but for $30, that chance was worth it.

Holy crap was I surprised.

Not only is this gadget small and sleek with a cool matte black finish, it also has a COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED blue LED right on the top! I am in love. Plus, it works exactly as advertised. I can now listen to crisp clean Dolby Digital 5.1 audio when I watch movies via Ghostwheel. This is the best $30 I’ve spent in a long time.

What about that blow-job you got in the back of Seven Eleven?

Are you kidding? I talked you down to $10, remember?

Yeah, but I took the $20 from your wallet while you were "cleaning up".

Suddenly that Slurpee I bought while you two were "getting the car started" doesn't seem like such a good idea...
