I'd say apparently the average American is in support of policies that really only care about mid-to-upper class white Christian males who don't sound funny and don't seem to have "sustainability" in their vocabularies. Just a thought.

...the republicans gained seats in the house, the senate, and I think they got some more governors.

Not that I mind the republican congress so much, it is the president (especially this president) that worries me.

Looks to me like moral standing was a little more important then the war on terror. It seems the long term standing of Abortion, religion and gay marriage matterd more the what people see as a short term war in Iraq.

"moral standing"?

Yeah, NPR was trying to figure out what 'moral principles' MEANT exactly. One of the better guesses was that they want Bush to appoint the next four Supreme Court Justices. It's a nice nebulous thing, 'moral principles'.

One reason that I like president Bush is that he now may have it in his power to eliminate abortion. And while abortion in itself is a very contraversial issue, more than anything else I'd like to see a ban on partial birth abortion, a barbaric procedure where a fully developed third trimester baby is removed the the womb... all but the head, before having its brain sucked out through a tube.

"a fully developed third trimester baby is removed the the womb"

Have you read Roe v. Wade? Apparently not.

The Supreme Court ruled that once the fetus was viable, it was a citizen, and must be protected. Third trimester fetus' are viable, and abortions during the third trimester have never been legal (as far as I know, please prove me wrong).

Dilation and Extraction (D&X, aka "partial birth abortion") is the most commonly used form of abortion in the FIRST trimester. It has come to be associated as a later term procedure because it is (usually) the only safe procedure after the 14th week (the second trimester starts at the 15th week, when women still have the legal right to an abortion for another 9 weeks).

The other procedure that could be used during the second trimester is called Dilation and Evacuation (D&E). This procedure is not preferred after 14 weeks because it can lead to perforation of the uterus.

Doctors are also worried because not being able to use the safest method they know of may be a violation of their Hippocratic oath.

Note: D&E is chopping up the baby BEFORE you take it out of the uterus. I don't know why this is better than D&X.

Note2: The supreme court did say that if the life of the mother is at risk, she has a right to a third trimester abortion.

Note3: Abortions are not legal after the fetus is viable, at the time of Roe v. Wade, this was the start of the third trimester. As time progresses and medical knowledge/procedures become better, this date changes.

found a nice little quote to wrap it all up:
So let's recap: War good. Fags bad. Huge deficit good. Personal choice in medical care (abortion) bad.

That I am smarter than 51% of America. Yay me!

But honestly, I am depressed that so many Americans cannot seem to understand that we are performing an unprovoked act of aggression against another nation. That should be enough to convince everyone to cast a vote to remove our electorally "elected" leader.

Last time I checked, congress hasn't declared war - Have we forgotten that Executive Action != War?

We must address the Baby Boomers - We must convince our parents, uncles and aunts, as there are more of them than us. Although I suppose we've got another four years to try, now. What happened America, indeed.

partial birth abortion is still done during the third trimester, many times at the child's natural birth time. As long as the head is not removed from the vagina, it is still consider 'during pregnancy' and therefore is considered an abortion, not a murder. the legs, arms, and torso may be completely removed. Several methods are used to perform the 'operation' at this point, including cerebral extraction and spine severing.

I can easily provide you with proof, and images to boot. Let me know if you want them, although I can almost promise you don't.

"I can easily provide you with proof, and images to boot."

I would like you to provide me with proof that it is legal inside of the United States for third trimester abortions to be performed when the pregnancy is not endangering the life of the mother.

As for pictures: Pictures don't prove anything. Pictures of people preforming third term abortions don't prove that they are occurring inside of the United States. Besides, I can provide you pictures of an alien autopsy.
