The eclectic musings of a bitter software engineer.

A Qubit, by any other name

Friday July 16, 2004 @ 03:53 PM (PDT)

I took Qubit to the vet today. While leading us back to see the doctor, the receptionist mentioned that they’ve been seeing a lot of cats named Qubit recently. “Lots of engineers,” she hypothesized.

I was surprised. When Loren suggested the name I thought it was unique, and damn clever at that. Is Qubit a less clever pet name than I thought, or is my kitty just so famous (she has fans in China, you know) that everyone wants to name their cat after her?

You should have gone for 'Drusilla'. Bet that isn't common.

Just change the name of the cat, its not like cats "come here qubit!" and they obey.

Actually, she does know her name, and I can often coax her into coming by calling her name and proffering my hand.

I'd have to concur, I have two cats, and they both appear to acknowledge sounds they recognise. Must be in a Pavlov's Dogs kinda way, but even 'fishy fish' has them running to the kitchen even from upstairs ready for feeding.
