Big Damn Heroes

Saturday June 25, 2005 @ 01:31 PM (PDT)

Let me tell you a story about a man named Loren. Last month, when Felicity and I got tickets to the Portland Serenity screening and Loren didn't, Loren was very unhappy. He was even more unhappy when he couldn't get tickets to the screening that took place last Thursday. He made a valiant attempt to buy tickets on eBay but, sadly, Loren is not made of money and when the auction went north of $50, he threw in the towel.

As a last resort, he decided to go sit in front of the theatre and beg for tickets. He figured there was a chance he'd get in, and in any case it'd be fun. Andy, who was also dying to see Serenity, joined him, and I went along (with my trusty video camera) to document the event.

None of us were prepared for what happened. This is the story of how three humble dorks and a mysterious stranger became Big Damn Heroes.

After you watch the video, have a look at some photos of the event taken by a fellow Browncoat.

Comments

I find it amusing that this video has received less comment than any other you've done in the last two years, even though it's been linked to on Whedonesque. Maybe the normal wonko.com crew isn't hip to the Firefly and the newcomers just download and run.

Ever since I started worshiping Satan and eating baby pandas my readers seem to have turned against me.

Wait, when was this? Did I miss a post? You eat baby pandas? I'm totally dumping you.

Damn! worshiping Satan and eating baby pandas used to make me feel special, but now that all the cool kids like Ryan are doing it, I am truly lost. I think I am going to go kill a party clown.

Some of that silence might be related to the fact that I've been trying to download the video for days to no avail :) The download status just remains at "Starting download" for hours.

Firefox seems to have issues downloading certain types of files via the Coral cache (which is how these videos are distributed). You might try another browser if that's what you're using.

Of course, it doesn't help that I had to move wonko.com to a much crappier connection yesterday. Hopefully things will improve eventually.

Hiya!

Just got back to town and saw that Adam had added some things to his site. Don't know if I would have found you otherwise...don't get to bop about the internet as much as I used to! So glad I got to see your short though! I was the Kaylee dressed person at the beginning. At least the Kaylee silhouette. :D Great music choices! I loved the opening. The giant ant made toro and I giggle!

You guys should come down to Eugene and make some Firefly shirts with us!!

Cheers,

BDH

Very nicely done. I wasn't able to get to a gathering for the BDP, so I had a small soiree with 9 friends, many of them non-browncoats, so shindiggery was kept to a minimum. Thanks for making this and posting it.

First off, I'm a huge Firefly/Serenity fan (Went to June 23rd preview in Chicago & Midnight showing opening night. I even have Wash's head on a stick). A friend sent me the link to your movie and it's hilarious! The part with the giant ant makes me think you guys have roughtly the same attention span me and mine do. Also, is it bad that after watching this little movie of yours, I wanna do naughty things to Loren? He's adorable! If this doesn't pan out he could always use the footage for a find-a-mate video...that is if he is not already involved. Glad you guys got tickets!

LOVED the video...someone just posted it on the OB (old/official/original board that used to be the Fox board and is now the Fox Home Video Firefly board...*gasp*)http://forums.prospero.com/foxfirefly/messages?msg=27917.1

I LOVE how Browncoats become instant family. Watching your little adventure brought back all the wonderful memories of all the shiny encounters and thrilling heroics me and mine have experienced in the last 3 years.

I was lucky enough to go to the very first test screening, then to the screening that Joss attended on his birthday, another one in LA, and finally, to THE Premiere at Universal (walked the red carpet, watched the movie in the same theater as the BDHs and attended the after party!!). I was also one of the very lucky Browncoat Extras that got to be IN the movie.

Anyway...so shiny to see more Browncoats having fun in the name of Firefly!

And seriously, I wanna know how they made the Ice Planets...they would be so fun at the next Shindig!!

Keep Flyin'!

As far as I could tell, the ice planets were just snowcone-style shaved ice formed into spheres and flavored with snowcone flavoring. I didn't eat one, though; I was too busy filming.

That was a fun little video. Heartwarming one might say. Though the fan groups are fucking creepy. Thank you to the gods of Google Video for linking me to it. And thank you for making it.
